As borders with Cook Islands open with baby steps, resorts are scaling up their COVID safety protocols to be ready for international travellers. And therefore, it is very pleasant news that the Tamanu Beach Aitutaki has readied its own set of COVID-appropriate health, safety and hygiene measures. To go along with the country’s Cook Islands’ Promise of combating this virus, here are what travellers can expect from the resort.

Social Distancing

Besides pushing for contactless check-in, the Tamanu Beach has put in place social distancing measures throughout the resort. For example, during the check-in process, staff and the guests are now separated by a mandatory 1.5 metres and there is a sanitising station on hand.

App awareness

All travellers have to register with the CookSafe app while on holiday. Additionally, all guests dining in at the restaurant have to ‘check-in’ with the app for contact-tracing purposes.

Restaurant

The Tamanu Beach Aitutaki resort has reduced the number of tables at the restaurant, leading to more spaced-out seating arrangement. Utensil sharing is now minimised, and dishes are now served to each guest individually. Sanitising stations are readily available at the entrance and bar areas. All furniture and high-contact areas are regularly disinfected throughout the day and after each guest-use. Plus, dining and all kitchenware are disinfected using hospital-grade cleaning products.

Accommodations

Wherever possible, check-out and check-in are separated by a full 24 hours to allow ventilation and deep cleaning. Bungalows are serviced, cleaned and disinfected daily. Plus, all small items such as remotes, the bathrooms, outdoor shower touch points are wiped down with hospital-grade disinfectant during the daily room service. Air conditioning units are treated to an upgraded maintenance schedule.

Watersports equipment

As the CookSafe programme put it, the resort encourages travellers to bring their own masks, snorkels and flippers with them or buy a fresh pair on the island. This is just so that there is minimal to no chance of transmission of COVID. Besides that, kayaks and scuba-diving equipment is cleaned and disinfected regularly.
