Skytrax crowns Fiji Airways best airline and staff in Australia & Pacific for 2023!

Skytrax held its annual World Airline Awards and crowned Fiji Airways as the best airline in the Australia-Pacific region, pipping stalwarts like Air New Zealand and Qantas. The award ceremony took place at a star-studded gala at the Paris Air Show, which was hosted at the Air and Space Museum. 

Besides being a shot in the arm and welcome recognition of Fiji Airways, it’s important to note that it outperformed much bigger airlines like Qantas Airways and Air New Zealand, which stood second and third recently. It was especially heartening that Fiji Airways kept its places as the Best Airline Staff for Australia & Pacific. The sentiment was echoed by Fiji Airways’ Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Andre Viljoen after the awards. “We may not have as many resources as larger airlines, but we have the Fijian spirit of hospitality and care,” he said. “As Fiji’s National Airline, we embrace and champion these values in everything we do, and this sets us apart as an airline.”

In overall rankings, Singapore Airlines was crowned the best airline for this year. Goh Choon Phong, Singapore Airlines’ CEO said, “This award is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people, who worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel. That has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic as a leading international airline.”

Fiji Airways moved up from its 36^th place last year to 15^th overall in World Airline Awards rankings for 2023. It also grabbed the 12th spot in Cabin Crew ranking globally. Qantas, Australia’s national carrier, fell 12 places from 5^th best last year to 17^th overall this year. However, Air New Zealand bumped up from 30^th last year to 19^th overall this year in the Skytrax Awards rankings.
