Fiji has an amazing number of tours, on land, on water, and underwater. Some half-day and full day tours are but common, but there are a few which only repeat visitors feel adventurous enough to try out. Did you know about these fabulous seven?
This tour package sees guests picked up from the resort. Then, they are dropped at the town jetty to board the MV Ameline, which sets out on a leisurely 45-minute cruise along the river toward the Sigatoka River’s mouth. From this vantage point, guests enjoy unhindered views of the famous Sigatoka Sand Dunes and then get back to the jetty. An equally scenic 25-minute drive along the lush Salad Bowl valley follows shortly thereafter.
After a brief pause, holidaymakers are driven to the Nahigatoka Village for cultural immersion. After all, a Fijian holiday without a traditional village visit is just… incomplete in our books. A welcoming kava ceremony awaits, as does a BBQ lunch in a traditional community bure, lessons on coconut husking and a crafts demonstration. After a fun and entertaining day, it’s a quiet ride back to the resort.
This tour package sees guests picked up from their resort in Nadi and Coral Coast and taken to the charming village of Biausevu. On the way, the car stops at the Maui Bay Pier to feed the fish. Once on location, a customary kava ceremony follows, during which guests are briefed about the programme to follow.
Post the kava ceremony, visitors set out on a 35-minute hike through the foliage, passing streams and brooks on the way to the waterfall. Once at the waterfall, tourists can spend half an hour here, followed by a quick lunch (subject to weather conditions – it’s Fiji, so sudden downpours can be expected). After coming back to the village, visitors can browse souvenirs for keepsakes and trinkets. Then, it’s a 35-minute drive back to Sigatoka town and their respective resort.
This tour is one for the adrenaline enthusiasts. Holidaymakers are picked up from their hotel post breakfast. The ride makes a pit stop at the Naqalimare District School, where visitors get to spend a moment with the kids before continuing their journey onwards to the Koronihagana village.
A welcome kava ceremony and a short tour later, guests are taken to the riverbank. From here, either kayaks or boats ferry them across the river, depending on the climate. Back on land, it takes another 30-minute hike to reach the Naihehe’ Caves. And the caves… are a ripping adventure in itself! Tourists can spend up to 45 minutes here before heading back to the village for a light lunch and entertainment, before heading back to the resort.
The tourists are picked up directly from their resorts and taken to the beautiful Sigatoka Sand Dunes. After sightseeing, guests are taken to the Sigatoka District School for a meet and greet with the pupils. It’s a treasure trove of a cultural experience, knowing that children from over seven villages attend the school. From here, guests leave for the village of Nahigatoka. Here, they are welcomed with a kava ceremony, refreshments, and entertainment before calling it off for the day and heading back to the resort.
This is a slightly out-of-the-box tour – great for those who like road-trips and scenic, remote vistas. Here, tourists are taken through two cities and seven towns in one day! However, the main attraction is sightseeing in Suva and a stopover for lunch and drinks.
Starting around 5:30 pm, this is a lovely evening tour that sees guests chauffeured to the Sigatoka Sand Dunes to catch a tropical sunset. The Nahigatoka village is the next stop, where guests are warmly welcomed with a traditional kava ceremony. After exchanging pleasantries, guests are escorted to the lovo buffet. Lovo is a traditional style of indigenous cooking in an underground oven and is popular across Melanesia and the Pacific Islands. This buffet is all about ‘so-good-I-left-regret-half-an-hour-back’ level of scrumptious food, rousing cultural entertainment, and an all-around superb evening. Post the meal, guests are chauffeured back to their resorts.
With this fishing charter package, guests set sail from the Sigatoka town jetty at 7am. The boat sails to the Sigatoka River’s mouth before entering the seas. Enthusiasts and veteran anglers alike can engage in trawling, bottom bashing and casting. Guests get to catch their lunch/dinners and can have it freshly grilled on the beach once back.
