One of the world’s most exclusive island destinations, the Nukutepipi Private Island checks all the boxes needed for an out-of-the-world luxury island holiday.
A vision of Guy Laliberte, co-founder of the renowned Cirque Du Soleil, the island raises the bar for exclusivity to stratospheric levels. It reportedly took Laliberte a decade to search for the perfect spot amongst the Islands of Tahiti and another 10 years to bring his vision of the perfect island escape to reality.
Set a little less than 1,000 kilometres from Bora Bora, the island is only accessible by private plane charters. In fact, the closest continental landmass is more than 6,000 kilometres away – either Australia or South America. Once travellers reach Nukutepipi, they’re welcomed by a traditional greeting at the reception.
The resort offers 13 one-bedroom bungalows with a choice of a king-size bed or two queen-sized beds. Each unit is set by the beach and features spacious ensuite bathrooms with showers and walk-in closets, air-conditioning, WiFi, mini-bar, Nespresso coffee machines and a full range of complimentary amenities. Going up the ladder, there are two 2-bedroom Junior Villas. In addition to the amenities mentioned above, the villas feature individual dressing rooms, a work desk, a lounge, outsized terrace and a personal infinity pool.
And finally, there is the Master Villa – made to exact specifications of Laliberte. Spread over almost 7,000 sq feet, it features a master bedroom with a super king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor bathtub; a second bedroom with two queen-size beds and an attached bathroom and two separate one-bedroom bungalows, one with a king-size bed, the other with two queen-size beds. Other features include personal dressing rooms, an indoor kitchen, two lounges – one indoor and the other outdoor, day-beds and a jacuzzi. There’s also a bar and a personal movie-theatre squeezed in. But the cherry on the cake? A private infinity pool with a view of the lagoon.
Outside and around, Nukutepipi Private Island features traditional Polynesian artwork and reliefs by world famous artists like Damien Hirst, Wim Delvoye and Jim Dine. When it comes to activities and experiences, the island and its staff are second to none.
Whether your day happens to spend itself on land or water, there is a cornucopia of activities to occupy your time and imagination. Of course, the resort boasts of a land activities coordinator, a captain and a sailor for sea outings, a lagoon activities coordinator, a dive master, a massage therapist and a fitness attendant amongst others to see to your entertainment.
The island has a rich ecological diversity on terra firma and underwater for nature enthusiasts to explore. From walks exploring the island’s greenery to guided reef-snorkelling tours, just ask. The island is around two and half kilometres lengthwise and a little under 10 kilometres in circumference, so guests can explore freely and not get lost!
The resort’s activities desk runs a star-gazing programme, bird-watching tours, introduction to Tahitian culture, game fishing, scuba-diving, snorkelling and cultural expeditions. From July to October, guests can get up close and personal with humpback whales, too! Of course, the resort also excels when it comes to wining and dining. There is a full-blown luxe restaurant and a beach-facing bar for the resort’s guests, manned by master-chefs creating a daily-changing menu of gastronomic delight.
