Listen to Kokomo: Pushing COVID safety for happy Fijian holidays

The Kokomo Private Island Fiji is one of Fiji’s most exclusive five-star resorts. Naturally, it has pushed for several stringent COVID prevention and precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of international travellers.

We took the liberty of jotting them down for our travellers’ peace of mind while booking their well-deserved Fiji holiday. Or honeymoon or romantic escape – it’s not like 2020 was bereft of happy wedlocks, yeh?

As it has rightly become more of a good habit than a practice, the resort has pushed frequent handwashing and has facilitated increasing the ease of it all over the property. The resort has implemented higher frequency of cleaning and disinfection of all high touch-point areas and public spaces.

COVID Precautions: Inside Kokomo’s Luxe Villas

Before welcoming new guests, each of the resort’s 21 freestanding villas have disinfection incorporated into its cleaning regimen. Additionally, all villas are luxuriously spacious, boasting of private pools, outdoor showers, private gardens, a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and the most-liked feature – a huge deep-soaking bathtub in the en suite bathroom. Moreover, all villas also feature art-pieces by Chris Kenyon, traditional architectural touches and stonework. Looking for something bigger for mates and family to spread out in? Kokomo offers palatial Residences, ranging from 3-bedroom affairs to truly humongous 6-bedroom spreads! Of course, each accommodation choice at the Kokomo gets plenty of privacy and its own little stretch of beach. Truth be told, it is very easy to believe that the island resort exists only for you.

Kokomo also encourages social distancing for both guests and staff with a minimum of 1.5 metres of distance between people. That said, with Kokomo’s spread-out villas and few guests even at maximum occupancy – social distancing was a plus point here long before COVID. It was just called giving space!

Safety while Dining at Kokomo Fiji

Besides Kokomo’s palatial open-air restaurant outlets, the management has spaced out seating arrangements and made sure all servers are wearing suitable personal protective equipment. Enjoy the sights during your meal and relax, they’ve covered the safety part of fine dining!

The Kokomo Private Island Fiji offers three distinct dining venues for its guests. The mainstay is the Walker D’ Plank (‘walk the plank’, such a chuckle because Kokomo’s owner and founder is called Lang Walker!) which plies diners with unique Asian-inspired street food platters and menu-less, bespoke dining options. Then, the Beach Shack offers all-day dining and daily changing menu highlighting the resort’s ‘dock-to-dish’ mantra of sourcing the freshest seafood! And finally, the Kokocabana  is set by the resort’s pool and serves up delightfully-hot wood-fired pizza, charcuterie boards and great cocktails to help the holiday spirit along.

The resort staff are screened, and temperature checked every day while reporting to work with non-contact infrared thermometers – always maintaining the safety of guests and fellow staff. Of course, mere precaution is not enough. The island has a full medical clinic with a complement of full-time nurses on-site.
