Fiji Airways to suspend its Nadi – Dallas service from September

Fiji Airways has announced that it is suspending its longest route – from Nadi to Dallas, USA – in light of global jet fuel price surges. While the route provided a direct link between Fiji and the American South, the current economic environment has the airline pivoting toward its core Pacific and Asian corridors.

Starting September 8, 2026, the Vancouver service will be upgraded to the flagship Airbus A350-900, increasing capacity on that route. Additionally, Hong Kong frequencies will increase to four flights per week from September 22. This shift demonstrates the airline’s focus on markets where demand is at its most consistent, particularly as Fiji continues to see strong visitor numbers from Australia and New Zealand.

The Traveller Update: Maintaining US Connectivity

For travellers globally, the suspension of the flight service between Dallas Fort Worth and Nadi International doesn’t mean a total loss of access. Fiji Airways will maintain up to 11 weekly flights through Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO) and Vancouver (YVR).

Crucially, the airline’s partnership with American Airlines remains intact. This means travellers can still book single-ticket journeys to Dallas and other major US cities, transiting via Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Remedial Procedures for Travellers Impacted By Route Suspension

Fiji Airways has begun contacting guests currently booked on the Dallas route past the September 7 cutoff. Most passengers are being re-accommodated on same-day services via Los Angeles or San Francisco. For those whose schedules no longer align, the airline is offering travel credits or full refunds. Impacted travellers are encouraged to wait for direct contact from the airline or their travel agent. (We’re contacting our affected customers, too!)

Looking Ahead: Stability in the South Pacific

Despite the suspension of the Dallas route, Fiji’s tourism sector remains in a strong position, having recently recorded its highest-ever visitor arrivals for the month of March.
