There are very few islands in the world which can compare to Aitutaki in sheer beauty. Come to this island paradise when you want days away from ‘incessant connectivity’ and to breathe the fresh air of unpolluted natural beauty all around.
There can be no better place for expressing love for a significant other than on a canoe in Aitutaki’s light cerulean waters. Coming here for a honeymoon is a sure-fire guarantee for life-long memories and repeat visits. Check out our honeymoons section, tell us of your chosen resort or just talk to our South Pacific Specialists and bounce ideas off them for the perfect romantic getaway in Aitutaki.
Opting for a lagoon cruise or a glass-bottom boat ride is a day’s worth of fun and frolic. The lagoon cruises will often be day-long affairs taking travellers to the isolated motus around Aitutaki with picnics and barbeques thrown in for good measure.
Plus, there are a number of luxury yachts, catamarans and dive live-aboards for the enterprising traveller to hop on a charter and explore another facet of Aitutaki. You can browse through our Sailing Adventures to pick your dream cruise or call our South Pacific Specialists to find out more.
For every traveller’s bucket-list of places to visit, Aitutaki features on the hall of fame. It is a stark contrast of colours, with the dark blue of the Pacific Ocean being displaced by an almost perfect triangle of a light cobalt lagoon. Lining the triangle are banks of soft coral, inside which lie 15 vivid green ‘motus’, the largest being Aitutaki. Flying in, it is one of the prettiest sights to behold on earth.
The lagoon takes about an hour to cross by boat, and its picture perfect shallow azure waters filled with tropical fish and coral gardens make for breath-taking sights. A flight from the Rarotonga Airport will see you over Aitutaki and the pristine O’otu Beach in less than an hour. The largest of the islands is divided into numerous settlements and villages, while the smaller islands have been converted to resorts and lodges.
Tourism has modernised this patch of paradise a lot, but it isn’t commercialised in any sense. There is limited electricity, scant Internet, very limited network, some satellite TV, cable, and no Tinder. To make up for the loss of modern distractions, there is swimming in the clearest waters, snorkelling with shoals of colourful fish, diving, kite surfing, hiking the nature trails and generally lounging by the beach with a chilled cocktail beside you.
