About Samoa
The Pacific islands of Samoa is quite the paradox! For an island birthed by volcanoes, it is quite hushed. It is simultaneously wild and well manicured. It is serene yet spirited at the right moments. Samoa glitters in natural beauty – shimmering waters, lush greens and cascading waterfalls, but is devoid of flashy attractions and big chain touristy hotels. A cool tropical paradise but with greetings as warm as the island sun.
Samoa remains a top choice to sample authentic Polyneisan culture. It offers many historical landmarks, picturesque locations, traditions and customs that visitors can explore and experience. Flights to Samoa are common from both Australia and New Zealand and guests will touch down at the international airport in Apia to kick off their memorable Samoan holiday!
Things to Do in Samoa
Samoa offers plenty to experience and soak in – sinfully photogenic spots, adrenaline-spiking activities and intimate cultural immersions. Nearly all of them are centred in and around the islands of Upolu and Savai’i.
Guests can set a languid pace with whale-watching or dial it up a notch and go swimming with the dolphins. For more on exotic marine life, visit the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve. Samoa is also quite popular with the surfers and remains ever famous with them. Pick up a surfboard and chase those amazing swells and breaks at A’ufaga or Solosolo. Samoa also happens to be a diver’s paradise! Picturesque multi-hued corals and their equally colourful denizens make for hours upon hours of exploration, filled with wonder, learning and a new-found appreciation for nature. The clear sparkling waters are great for snorkelling, more so given the water’s tepidness. Walking and hiking are popular activities as well, offering an unique insight into the region’s geography, flora and fauna. Summiting Matavanu Crater not only makes for a brisk climb but also offers great visuals of Savai’i. Close to Apia is a gurgling waterfall that leads to a series of slippery pools. Locals are known to engage in the lively sport of ‘Let’s surf the waterfall’ and visitors are encouraged to cheer from the sidelines – or participate if they’re daring enough.
A trip to Samoa is not complete without experiencing a day or two of village life. Listen to stories and folktales handed down through generations, witness indigenous culture and tradition and experience many a cultural activity as you soak in Fa’asamoa and engage in enriching cultural immersion.
Best Time To Visit Samoa
Samoa is a tropical paradise, best visited in the dry winters. Samoan winters are known for their dry spell, running from May to October. However, the occasional rain cannot be entirely ruled out. Humidity remains low and regular trade winds make the evenings and nights cool and breezy. The temperature averages 26°C which makes excursions and activities a pleasant experience.
Speaking from a cultural point-of-view, any time is a good time to visit Samoa, given their warm welcome, fantastic hospitality and infectious happy spirits. A cultural event is always around the corner with fun, frolic and mouth-watering food guaranteed. Samoans are known to drive this experience a couple of notches higher during Independence day celebrations in June and the Teuila festival in September, where the celebrations are non-stop with floats, markets and merrymakers throughout the islands.

Top 5 Experiences in Samoa
While it is mighty difficult to jot down all the wonderful experiences to be had in a Samoan getaway, our South Pacific experts swear by the following and regularly bill them as a top 5 experience on this tropical holiday.
Nicknamed the Sunset Beach, Cape Mulinu’u is a picture-perfect white sand beach where the horizon breaks out into many hues of orange and blue as the sun sets. Poetic, beautiful and unquestionably romantic, this is a slice of Samoa that guests and their partners would not want to miss. Then, a visit to the Falefa falls, a thriving testament to nature’s power and bounty. Also worth a dekko are the Piula Cave Pools and the Pulemelei Mounds/Pyramids. Pulemelei will greatly appeal to history buffs and enthusiastic archeologists in the making. A visit to the Falealupo Village is a must for those wishing to sample the spirit of Samoa. From its Rainforest Canopy Walkway to the war god Moso’s Footprint to the House of Rocks, everything has its own story worth getting lost into. One of the best experiences to be had in Samoa is to get accepted as a part of a tribe and get invited to a ‘Umu feast’. Songs, dances, and traditional barbecues, all around the bonfire make for a memorable night. Also remarkable is the ‘Siva’ dance performed by the young ones with visitors expected to join in on the fun, when politely requested to.
