Treasure Island Eueiki Eco Resort

This is a holiday my kids and I will never forget. Treasure Island is a very special place - not only is it stunning and untouched, but the resort offered so much. Fran’s skills in the kitchen were outstanding, the fales were simple but perfect, the whale swimming and scuba diving days were incredible, and the hospitality from the whole team was so warm and we felt like family. Planning a whale-swimming trip to Tonga was far more challenging than I expected. Reliable reviews are surprisingly scarce and most operators respond extremely slowly, so narrowing down the right company took time and research. I ultimately chose Treasure Island Resort because their whale swims are exclusively reserved for resort guests—and I’m so glad I did. As a self-confessed Type-A planner, the booking process felt stressful at times (I hadn’t done a wire transfer in years), but the moment I landed in Tonga every worry melted away. Vero and Mark welcomed me like family and made hospitality their top priority, creating an immediate sense of community. The whale swims were unforgettable. Taane and Haidi were exceptional guides, striking the perfect balance of adventure and respect for the animals. We swam with whales on every outing and often had the ocean entirely to ourselves—no multiple boats crowding the encounter—so each interaction felt ethical and unhurried. We arrived with modest expectations for the food due to its remoteness but we were pleasantly blown away by Fran’s cooking. Meal after meal was varied, flavourful, and generous enough to leave us happily rolling into bed each night. Not to mention lunch and dinner were always 3 course meals. The island itself is idyllic and peaceful, with a calming energy that’s hard to describe. The fales are cosy and homely, and while Wi-Fi is limited to the main fale (something to note if you need to work remotely), it only adds to the off-grid vibe. The island also provided a great place to practice using our drones and underwater cameras. Overall, this stay was surreal in the best way, an intimate, respectful whale-swimming experience paired with heartfelt hospitality. Treasure Island is truly a special place. From the moment you step on the island, the owners and staff make you feel so welcome. The whale swims were absolutely unbelievable—thanks to the knowledge and care of our guides, Tanai and Haidy, we had incredible encounters every time we went out. The chef, Fran, is spectacular, and every meal was both plentiful and delicious. This is a one-of-a-kind experience, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! Read Less...
