Studio-style accommodation in the tropical gardens with kitchenette facilities. Includes an outdoor shower and spa bath. Each Pia Tiare (garden unit) is a spacious, studio size unit. Constructed as part of a duplex, they are also designed with unusually high roofing, a long but almost forgotten trademark of traditional Cook Island architecture. In fact these are the only remaining structures from the original resort development, although completely gutted and refurbished to our new ultra standard. Here again every window has dual options for see-through or private shade settings.
The Little Polynesian Resort is an award-winning Cook Island getaway on the very edge of the Titikaveka Lagoon. This hidden gem is part of the Small Luxury Boutique Hotels of the World and welcomes holidaymakers above 18. There’s plenty to do, right from relaxing at the beach to snorkelling and everything in between! Plus, some excellent pool-side dining to complete the holiday experience.
Here, guests will find two accommodations to revel in — Garden Studios and Beachfront Bungalows. One is modest, the other generous; but feature tasteful decor with plenty of natural light and fresh air. The garden studios showcase earthy charm with grey marble, while beachfront bungalows go with timber warmth. Garden Studio is the more intimate of the two and trades the blues of the ocean for the greens of the tropical plants. That’s where the difference ends.
Both the accommodation types feature king beds, modern ensuites and romantic nooks for couples at this adults-only Cook Islands resort. Plus, both of them feature a private courtyard with an outdoor shower for that added indulgence.
For more details on both the room types, please refer to our ‘Rooms at the Little Polynesian Resort’ section above.
A Cook Islands getaway at the Little Polynesian Rarotonga is a laidback holiday, and that same energy carries over when it comes to things to do. For starters, patrons may want to check out the restaurant. Set facing the pool and accessible from the lobby, it’s hard to miss and is designed to offer a quiet, intimate setting with views of the lagoon. There are two levels to the restaurant, with the lower half next to the pool. Here, guests can expect to bite into scrumptious fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals are an eclectic mix of authentic Polynesian delights and Continental delicacies, with a beverage menu to pair every plate with.
Then, guests can spend an hour or two under the shade of a coconut tree with a nu (fresh coconut drink) in hand, eyes resting softly on the tranquil waters of the lagoon. And if fancy strikes, walk to the ‘Fruits of Rarotonga’ — a snorkelling spot with gin-clear waters and plenty of colourful fish! But for those wanting to just soak, the resort’s beachside pool is a viable option.
Couples can also enjoy a beach picnic on the white sands. Spread the towel, open up the hamper, soak in the sun and glow in each other’s company. Sunset walks are another romantic thing to do, as is hopping onto a motorbike and letting the wind do the talking on a round trip of Rarotonga. The Punanga Nui market is a great place to stop, enjoy a snack, maybe an ice cream, while window shopping and browsing for keepsakes. And then, it’s back to the resort for some relaxation and rejuvenation at the Te Manava Spa and Pacific Lounge.
The adults-only Little Polynesian Resort is apt for newlyweds as well as couples wanting to holiday in privacy, surrender to the many charms of a tropical island, and, in the process, rediscover each other…all over again. There’s no denying the resort has a romantic flair, and there’s not just the scent of the wildflowers in the air; there’s love too! But before you do all of that, check out our Cook Island holiday deals.
