I think my expectations were higher for the amount paid. The pool was not accessible either. Having said that, it did not affect the experience of the Oueva trip. The people are so friendly on this island. Everyone greets each other. We were just walking on the road and there were at least four cars that offered to give us a lift and made sure we are safe The food and services are expensive but I guess they are isolated. The food portions are massive so if you’re with two people I suggest one entree and one main to share. It will save your money and save on food waste too To improve your stay: - BYO snorkelling gear (they don’t provide) - BYO beach towel - Don’t throw out the water bottle. Refill it during breakfast as they only provide one bottle - Request a cabin near the reception as the wifi will disappear the further away you are - Watch the sunset and sunrise - Don’t bother with the Hanawa blue hole - Book the Pleiades du Nord trip! Highly recommend! What an awesome place. This hotel would have been amazing when it was built. It’s definitely run down now, but honestly it somehow adds to the charm. You go to Ouvea for the location, not for a resort style holiday. The staff were brilliant, food was good and fresh. Yvonne was so welcoming and assisted with every request promptly. I was amazed at how well most of the staff spoke English, despite being in a fairly remote French speaking location. Definitely hire a car (you can do this from the hotel) and explore all of Ouvea!
