Lau’s Getaway

As South Pacific countries go, Niue doesn’t really rank high on crazy nightlife, white sand beaches, plentiful bars and five-star hotels. They’re stilted double-storeyed structures, set on the island’s cliffs and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The villas at Lau’s Getaway are identical in furnishings and design, except one of them is just a wee bit closer to the sea. The floor is locally-sourced hardwood and the ground level is an open-plan living space and kitchen, which leads out to the deck. There’s air-conditioning, on both levels, fully-kitted out kitchen with an microwave, fridge, dishwasher, gas range and a Nespresso coffee machine. The living room has Ekornes stressless chairs, Bluetooth sound system and a 42-inch LCD TV. Upstairs is the bedroom and bathroom; there’s a super-kingsize bed, black-out curtains, a bigger 55-inch LCD TV and another balcony with a two-person outdoor bathtub. The ensuite bathroom comes with double-headed showers and complimentary toiletries. There’s also free WiFi, complimentary laundry service and reception service.

Outside Lau’s Getaway, there’s plenty to see, do, eat and experience in Niue. There are no sandy beaches, but the waters are always crystal-clear so snorkelling, swimming and kayaking are simply world-class. Then you can explore the island on your own on rented cars/bikes or go for guided tours, visit a traditional village, sign up for underwater scooter rides, fishing charters and so on. Oh, and you can spot whales and dolphins playing in the ocean while getting a soak in the tub. Just saying.
