The Vacala Bay Resort Villa is composed of three freestanding but interconnecting sections. In the centre is the spacious drawing room and lounge that flows into a kitchen cum bar area. The living area features plush furniture, a large flat-screen TV and LINN Hi-Fi sound system. The full kitchen comes with a five-burner gas oven, fridge, freezer, pantry, dishwasher and other modern appliances. The lounge area opens out to the upper terrace, the wraparound pool and ocean views via the sliding bifold glass doors. The minimalist bedroom, with a large king bed is open to the elements on three sides via more bifold glass doors. To its left is the open-air outdoor shower area with a couples’ rain-shower and a beautiful freestanding bathtub. This outdoor area can also be accessed from the ensuite, which comes with its own set of conveniences, namely a dual vanity, toiletries and bath linens. To the right of the king bed is the pool, accessible via the bi-fold door and to the front is an upper terrace, well-appointed with island-inspired cushioned furniture. The second bedroom is to the left of the lounge area as you enter. It’s situated on an upper level and features a spacious king bed along with a spacious sofa and single bed. It comes with its own private indoor bathroom complete with modern amenities like the one in the master bedroom. This bedroom trades an upper terrace for a long private cantilevered balcony from where to enjoy panoramic views of the coast. Both bedrooms have contemporary conveniences such as a spacious walk-in closet, 21-foot high ceilings, large fans and air conditioning.
The Vacala Bay Resort, which is a singular expansive villa, is spread over 12 acres of scenic beauty on Fiji’s ‘Garden Island’ – Taveuni. The villa is situated atop a high bank, with a bird’s-eye view of Vacala Bay, the Somosomo Strait and the nearby islands. It’s surrounded by a well-tended tropical garden, with steps leading down to the powdery-white sands of the beach.
How to reach Vacala Bay Resort: After landing at the Nadi International Airport in Fiji, travellers have to take an hour’s domestic flight to Taveuni island. Post disembarkation, it’s a five-minute car ride to Vacala Fiji.
The eco-friendly villa comprises three interconnected, solar-powered buildings. A wraparound pool separates the lounge from the master bedroom, splitting the upper deck in the process and ends at the plunge pool on the lower deck. The upper deck on the lounge side features open-air seating arrangements as well as a lovely swinging hammock. The deck continues on till it reaches the master bedroom, where it features island-inspired seating.
The lower deck has a smaller pool, surrounded by sun loungers and day beds. It’s steps from the Prince Charles beach and provides charming views of Vacala Bay. For more information on bedrooms and amenities within the villa, check out the ‘Rooms at Vacala Bay Resort’ section above.
The villa comes with its own private chef, who takes guests’ preferences and dietary restrictions. The all-inclusive Fiji holiday deals for Vacala (that can be made bespoke!), include made-to-order meals, a range of house wines, spirits and beverages complete the barefoot luxe circle of magic.
A Taveuni holiday for couples, for instance the one at Vacala Bay Resort, is all about taking it easy. However, by no means does a quiet Fiji holiday have to be a boring one!
Taveuni is called Fiji’s Garden Island because of its biodiversity, profusion of endemic species and its natural beauty. For example, Fiji’s national flower tagimoucia grows only on Taveuni and nowhere else in the world. To see the red and white blooms of the liana vines, it’s mandatory to take a guide – the flowers grow only on one steep mountainous cliff-facing region on Taveuni’s volcanic island. On the way, do visit the village and soak in the flowers’ achingly romantic legend. Or, read it in our blog on the tagimoucia flowers.
At Vacala, guests will have plenty to do to keep themselves occupied. There’s the white sandy beach a few stairs down, lining the gin-clear waters. Snorkelling is a big hit with the visitors, given the clear sparkling waters of Vacala Bay. Snorkellers can explore the submerged soft coral colonies in all their colours as the sun shines on them and reef fauna darts around. Scuba-diving enthusiasts will want to check out the iconic Rainbow Reef and the Somosomo Strait – both have been featured in multiple dive magazines in the past two decades.
Holidaymakers can follow up a day spent underwater with a day spent over water. The conditions here are excellent for stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and kite surfing. In fact, Taveuni is quickly becoming the go-to destination in Fiji for kite surfing, given its calm waters and friendly breezes.
Another fun thing to do is to cruise on the ‘Looping’ — the resort’s private catamaran, and sail around Fiji’s spectacular Far North. It’s an excellent opportunity to experience a dopamine boost, discover secluded beaches, forgotten islands, snorkel in clear waters and be at one with nature. Guests can also charter the catamaran for a half-day visit to the nearby Honeymoon Island.
No Fiji holiday is complete without a visit to one of its many villages. It’s no different here. For a change of pace, guests at the Vacala can trek or ride to one of the nearby villages. Once at the location, visitors can look forward to colourful meke performances, immersive storytelling, lip-smacking lovo feasts and a round or two of kava — or ‘grog’, as its cheerful nom de guerre. This isn’t just about Fiji’s indigenous culture, but an opportunity to experience the famous Fijian hospitality.
This is merely scratching the surface of things to do at the Vacala Bay Resort. There’s definitely more to do, and it’s all there on our upcoming Vacala Bay Resort blog (stay tuned to this page).
