Vahine Private Island Resort & Spa-Amy R

I’m sorry to leave three stars—we love Vahine Island! We originally visited in 2014, and had the most incredible experience. The food was prepared by a chef from the Four Seasons in the south of France, so the meals were an event of inventive, varied and unique cuisine. The rooms are wonderfully Robinson Crusoe with the right touch of modern amenities—that part hasn’t changed one bit, and is actually slightly better than 10 years ago. What caused a low rating was the food. After having a solid 10+ rating previously, the food this week was just meh. Last night, for example, we had beef tenderloin with a decent sauce. The sides? Sweet potato fries and puréed sweet potato, the last of a week of beige dinners. No new flavor combos, not anywhere close to what we had before (and what people four months ago seemed to have), very little color. One night we had lobster that was extremely tough and grey atop a mound of some starch. There isn’t any creativity like before. Because of this, we will be very careful when we choose to return. I hate giving less than stellar reviews for such a special place, but people will be disappointed in the food if they come expecting anything other than meat and potatoes.

No complaints with the staff, everyone has been accommodating and friendly. The only complaint is the food.
