Uepi Island Resort
The Uepi Island Resort is probably one of the best options for travellers looking for a detox from city life and the modern hustle. Its remoteness and rustic luxury is complemented by the jaw-dropping beauty of the Marovo Lagoon and the island itself. Travellers flying in from Brisbane or Sydney will first land at Solomon Islands’ capital, Honiara. From there, a fixed wing air shuttle provides transport to Seghe, a crushed coral airstrip an hour’s flight away. The friendly Uepi contact person waiting there will then man the last leg of the journey, an 18-km boat ride across the pale blue waters of the longest lagoon in the world. The Uepi Island Resort has six spacious bungalows (four beachfront and two set in the resort’s gardens), two guest rooms and two dual guest units to accommodate its guests. Read More...+

What does the international traveller get after such a Mecca-like jaunt? For starters, Solomon Islands has yet to face hordes of tourists, so its 999 islands and coral reefs are pristine in their beauty. The Marovo Lagoon and the Uepi Island Resort are even more beautiful, with volcanic landmasses of Vangunu, Gatakae and New Georgia surrounding it. On one side, Uepi has the lagoon with its shallow white sand bars, guaranteeing superb snorkelling. On the other side of the island is a 2,000-metre deep abyss, promising one of the most superb scuba-diving opportunities for experienced enthusiasts. Plus, the gorgeous coral gardens, wrecks and prolific marine life provide endless hours of underwater fun and adventure. What makes Uepi world-renowned is its superb collection of dive sites which go as deep as the nearby abyss. Seriously, there are a range of diving excursions in and around the island and its lagoon, wreck dives, night-time expeditions, shark dives and so on. Then, the Uepi Island Resoert is also a favourite haunt for game-fishermen and amateur anglers. The resort works with the locals to not go for professional game fishing power launches and the like, instead going for light outboard-motor and fiberglass/ aluminium boats – it’s just respectful when the neighbours paddle pass on on traditional kayaks.
On land, the island has bushwalks in the lush rainforest and guided tours to see the endangered coconut crabs. Also, for first time travellers to this beautiful country, we’ve a great little blog on the Top 10 (or 12!) things to do in Solomon Islands for you to check out!
The unspoilt beauty of the Uepi Island Resort is one of the main reasons for so many repeat travellers; and the barefoot luxury of this place amplifies the romance of staying on a private island. At Hideaway Holidays, we believe that it takes just one visit for travellers to realise the infinite charm of Uepi. Due to the limited inventory of the resort, we recommend that your best option is to book here in advance.
