Other amenities include an ensuite bathroom, a flatscreen TV, tea/coffee maker, living area, and fabulous views of the beach and the crystal-clear Pacific Ocean beyond.
When it comes to wining and dining, the Islander Hotel stands head and shoulders above the competition. The Islander Dining Room is the place to head for breakfast and all-day dining. It also hosts its ‘Island Night’ buffets on Tuesdays, which draws crowds from all over. You’ll love the power-packed traditional fire-knife dance by the Akirata dance troupe, besides the restaurant’s famous spit roast pork! The Tiki Bar offers great views of the beach and during the months of June to October, you can watch whales breaching and playing about close to the shore – all while sipping on your chilled glass of wine.
A holiday to Cook Islands would be amiss without sampling Rarotonga’s silky white sand beach and its crystal-clear waters. Swimming, kayaking and snorkelling are perennially fun activities off the hotel’s beach. You can ask the hotel’s activities desk to recommend you good charters and operators to help you plumb Cook Islands’ many scuba-diving hotspots. Island hopping –is another great option while on a holiday. Atiu, Aitutaki and Pukapuka are three beautiful day-tours, and if you aren’t familiar with Aitutaki – lucky you! Let’s get you updated in a hurry about one of the most beautiful lagoon in the world, period. Here’s an article about Aitutaki winning Oceania’s #1 destination and another about things to do in Aitutaki.
You can also check out Rarotonga’s museums, sign up for food tours and pub crawls, but we’d recommend a visit to any of island’s villages for a day to know about Cook Islands’ Polynesian heritage. For starters, you can read up on what you can expect to see and experience at the Te Vara Nui Cultural Village.
