About Vanautu

Vanuatu represents the very best in a beach holiday experience. No pollution or traffic, only pearly white beaches, modern resorts and all the fun and fervour of a long-deserved break. As soon as travellers land in Port Vila, the magic starts. Located on the main island of Efate, Port Vila is surrounded by miles of delicate reef and beaches that greets people before they even get off the plane. Espiritu Santo provides amazing views of forest-covered mountains, underground caves and powdery-white sand beaches. The island of Tanna is another highlight with Mt Yasur, a favourite of eco-tourists, adventure lovers and divers alike. But the main attraction of Vanuatu is the unfailing good nature and hospitality of the people. Together with a range of accommodations and a host of activities, it makes for a gem of a tropical getaway. Things to do in Vanuatu

Vanuatu has one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the world. Plentiful marine life abound its soft coral reefs to woo divers along with massive underwater grottos and caverns. From hiking trails that lead to breathtaking ‘blue holes’ of freshwater caves and waterfalls to zorbing down its hills, there’s something for every adventure lover. For more relaxed fun, kayaking and stand-up paddling in the tranquil clear waters of the South Pacific Ocean can’t be beaten. A village visit will unveil thousands of years of language, culture, traditions and crafts in a day. Learn to weave a traditional basket, know about essential herbs and oils or just enjoy the happiness radiating from a day talking to village elders.

Best Time to Visit Vanuatu

Best Time to Visit Vanuatu

Best Time to Visit Vanuatu

Vanuatu is generally sunny, warm waters and cool winds throughout the year, but April to October is considered the best time to visit this untouched paradise. One of the best experiences in Vanuatu is to see the Naghol Land Diving ceremony. From April to June, the village men prove their virility by tying their feet with liana creepers and diving off platforms 60-100 feet high to the ground below. Often considered the precursor to modern bungee-jumping, only a few lucky travellers get to see this ceremony. (Talk to our South Pacific Specialists on how to arrange a visit). Then, there is the Tanna Toka dance, which goes on for days and is only permitted when the village chiefs mandate so in October.  Another interesting event is the Lukaotem Gud Santo Festival in Luganville, Santo – a two-day music extravaganza perfect for families and couples.

Mount Yasur is undoubted one of the top attractions of Vanuatu. Perpetually rumbling, it makes for an awe-inspiring presence unlikely to be replicated anywhere else. If you want to go for a walk to the edge of Mount Yasur, we’ll make sure it’s with trained professional tour guides. For three days in November, Rah Island in Vanuatu becomes a hub of fun and events during St Andrew’s Day Festival. Don’t forget to try the ‘Volcano Bake’! Thirdly, because of Vanuatu’s volcanic origins, there are scores of freshwater and ocean-filled caves where travellers can swim in absolute delight. Fourthly, the Naghol Land Diving is the mother of all bungee-jumping! From 30-metre high bamboo platforms, warriors jump towards the ground tied only by flexible lianas! Book much in advance to get permission. Last, but not the least, travellers come to Vanuatu for the sights but return for the people. The people of Vanuatu are incredibly warm, affable and show a degree of hospitality rarely seen in the modern world. Happy holidaying!

Post-lockdown Holidays in Vanuatu

As of right now, the little island nation of Vanuatu is locked down. It is expected to open its borders for travel and tourism in early 2022. The country is pushing hard for vaccination of its population and we expect normal reopening rules for international travellers, like RT-PCR tests before departure, contact tracing app sign on, health declarations and COVID-appropriate behaviour on your holiday.
