Sinalei Reef Resort, on the legendary site of one of King
Malietoa's battles, is steeped in history and local lore. Legend has it, that before the
battle, Malietoa ate the 'sacred yam' which empowered him with magical strength. He slew
his enemies and the land was henceforth known as 'Le Ufi Sa a Malietoa' or 'The Sacred Yam
of Malietoa'. Sinalei Reef Resort offers a unique Samoan experience.....
The resort opened in early 1996 and is located on the Southern side of Upolu, 30 minutes drive from Apia. Sinalei Reef Resort features much that is synonymous with Samoa and its architecture, furnishing and landscaping. The resort is set in a tropical botanical garden of flora indigenous to the region and sits serenely on the waters edge with panoramic views of the South coast. Each unit or "fale" is designed for privacy with nature and the Pacific Ocean at it's doorstep.

Surfing at Sinalei
Surang is the surfing area in southern
Upolu. The swells can be seen from Sinalei and are accessible by boat. Cost is US$50 per
hour (min 2 hours) and boat can take up to 4 surfers. To ensure availability of boat
bookings should be made well in advance. Tidal times will dictate hours of operation.
