Ngarando Resort
Pigeon Island, Reef Islands, Solomon Islands
A place away from it all, but with the conveniences of modern living.
Ngarando Island Retreat is situated on a beautiful, park like, five acre raised atoll island, which is part of the Reef Island group.
On one side is Mohawk Bay, on the other  is the lagoon.

HOW TO GET THERE: Packages are available from Australia with Hideaway Holidays. From Honiara it is a 3 hour flights to Lata twice weekly, on Wednesday and Saturday, leaving at 7.00 am and arriving 10.00 am, usually going via Kira Kira. From Lata airfield it is a 10minute walk to the wharf, and then a 3 hour sea journey  in a Ray Boat with outboard, direct to Pigeon Island in the Reef Islands.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE: Electricity is available from Solar and Generator, usually in the evenings between 6 and 10, or by arrangement at other times. A cool sea breeze is almost always blowing because of the size of the island. Because it is 300 meters from the next populated island, mosquitoes cannot fly that far and they are only occasionally seen. In surveys carried out in the Reef Islands, there no female anopheles mosquito (that carry the malaria virus).

WHAT YOU CAN DO AT NGARANDO: Trips to other islands, line fishing and spear fishing, bush walks and reef walks, bird watching, reading, (there are many books on the island); in the evenings there are usually two video decks running; free-to-air satellite TV is also available. Dugout canoes and masks and snorkels are provided.

WHAT YOU NEED: The trading post on Pigeon Island can provide almost all needs. Each unit of the resort (there are two) has a gas refrigerator and a cooker, shower and flush toilet. There is a double and a single bed, and for those who wish to self-cater, utensils for 4 people. There is a medical clinic 3 kms away, accessible by boat, and there is a market at the same location open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
